Wedding Wednesday: Newcastle Vintage Wedding Fair

Another Wedding Wednesday is here! And this week we went to the Newcastle Vintage Wedding Fair at the Theatre Royal so I thought I'd tell you all about a few of my favourite things we saw while we were there.

We LOVED this bar bicycle stocked with you favourite drinks or the option to create a custom cocktail for your guests from Nickynoo Quirky Weddings and Events find them on www.nickynoo.co.uk.
They also provide catering (Afternoon tea!) and a candy cart!

Pimms is such a wonderful summer drink and now you can have the Pimms van at your wedding! They also have a television screen on the side of the van which you can use to play music or even a slide show. Find them at www.pimmsvan.co.uk and don't forget they also do a winter pimms if you're planning a colder wedding like we are!

Macarons! I'm in love with the bright colours of these mini treats that can be made to match to your colour scheme! One of my favourite parts? These treats are coloured and flavoured with all natural flavourings so non of those crazy additives. These not only look amazing they taste incredible too! Find them at www.leminimacaron.co.uk.

We also saw this amazing Live band! The Four Shadows as soon as I heard them singing Little Lion Man I was dead set on having these guys perform at the wedding. Their song list is just perfect and not to mention the wonderful outfits they wore. Find them here at www.fourshadowstheatre.co.uk.

Last but not least Surf & Silver from The Rainbow Pot in Grainger market has the most wonderful handmade sea glass jewellery. Sea glass reminds me of my childhood so seeing such beautiful jewellery creations was wonderful. Find The Rainbow Pot on Facebook and Twitter.

Seeing all these amazing things has really gotten me (even more) excited to plan the wedding! Look out for another update soon!

My favourite spots in Newcastle.

I thought I'd give a little insight into a few of my favourite places in Newcastle to visit if you'll ever be here.

So here is my top 4!

1. Jesmond Dene- While I am a little bias as it's where we got engaged it's so beautiful along here in every season that it's not to be missed. There's plenty of space to walk and maybe picnic in the right weather. There's also Pet's Corner which is a small animal park, super sweet and there's a cafe along side for the cold days when you need a cuppa.

2. The Laing art gallery- Of all the art galleries in Newcastle this is my favourite, it's not too modern and includes a lot of traditional artwork. Even the building is beautiful to look at, it's such an underrated place. Find it right in the centre of Newcastle just round the corner from number 3...

3. Theatre Royal- Personally I think the Theatre Royal is one of the most beautiful buildings in Newcastle and is incredible to watch theatre in whether it be the Christmas Panto or the RSC. I'm hoping to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime when it comes at the end of January.

4. Pet Lamb Patisserie- Lastly a little cake stop! Find them in the corner of Grainger Market and I promise you will be in for a treat! My personal recommendation... the salted caramel brownie, delicious!

I hope you love Newcastle as much as I do!

First Wedding Wednesday!

I thought I'd do a little update on how things are at the moment seeing as how something big happened lately...

G and I got engaged!

It was magical and perfect and we weren't quite sure what to do afterwards so we took pictures.

We wandered through Jesmond Dene too, admired Autumn appearing and looked at Pets Corner with the quit adorable goats.

I adore my ring and can't stop staring at it, G did so well and I think it's about as perfect as I could have imagined.

I have tons of ideas for the big day and have started compiling them all on Pinterest (if you want to follow and see what my ideas for the wedding are click the link in the sidebar). We're both falling on a November date and hopefully in about two years once we've finished with all our commitments like university and apprenticeships and have had enough time to save up.

It will definitely be crafty and with lots of DIYs so be prepared for lots of DIY posts and updates on the planning process between my usual posts.

This is, fingers crossed, my first post of #blogtober so stay tuned for more posts!

A very excited Katy

The Hoppings 2014

I hadn't heard of the Hoppings until a few days ago when I saw it mentioned on my Instagram despite living in Newcastle for nearly two years.

Once I realised it was a giant funfair, the world's biggest touring actually, I knew we needed to go!
Mostly because G and I both love funfair food!

It's held at Town Moor and this year marked the 132nd Year of The Hoppings, so it's definitely a Newcastle tradition. There's rides and so much food it will make your tummy ache just looking around.

Well when they say world's biggest, I never imagined how big it actually would be! I'm used to a tiny funfair in my hometown so this kind of blew my mind.

There is every kind of ride imaginable, add to that tons of food stalls and numerous hook-a-duck style prize stands, it could be quite daunting.

I think Town Moor is perfect though as it's sheer size accommodates everything they have there without feeling like you're packed like sardines with strangers.

We stuffed ourselves, and as I'd been thinking about having a slushy since I'd heard about Hoppings I was so pleased to find some additive filled strawberry-raspberry goodness. G enjoyed amazing looking noodles and curry sauce.

It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!!
Unfortunately this unicorn cutie was just too hard to get and we weren't willing to spend all our pennies to get him (you know how funfairs are) not that it wasn't fun to try.

If you fancy going The Hopping's is on until Saturday 28th and is free to enter! Check the website here for opening times and information on parking and finding Town Moor.

Whitley Bay:

I'm 20! Woohoo! I feel like and adult now, it's so different saying twenty and not teen anymore. I had a lovely birthday just hanging out with G, we had lunch and I used my birthday money to invest in a new DSLR camera.

I chose the Nikon D3200 after plenty of research and a couple of test runs in the shops I committed and went for it. So far it works like a dream and I'm in love with the crisp clear images I get in comparison to my iPhone.

The day after my birthday we decided to take a picnic in my new basket (my amazing parents present to me!) and catch the metro to Whitley Bay as G used to go all the time as a kid and wanted to show me the sights.

The sun was shining and it was such a lovely day, I even got my sunglasses out!

The sky was so blue and it was just lovely to be beside the sea. We were trying to walk to the lighthouse you can see in the distance, St Mary's, where G visited as a little boy. It looks a lot further than it is, we only walked about three quarters of the way there before the wind just got too cold and we headed back.

This picnic basket was a birthday present from my parents, it's all decked out with green and blue cutlery and plates/cups. It's an antique and it's so perfect I don't know how my Mum thought up something so incredible! We packed up some homemade sausage rolls and popcorn, some carrot sticks and leftover cookies and cream birthday cake (Courtesy of G!). It was delicious but freezing!

I spent forever testing my camera and getting tons of shots of the waves crashing against the walls. I always love watching this and I'm a little obsessed with the sea, I've loved it ever since I was a kid. Blame several holidays to Cornwall where I'd often wade out into the sea up to my neck and bodyboard all the time.

I loved spending the day soaking up the Vitamin D and enjoying G's week off work.

G and I are going down to Cornwall for our holidays in September and I can't wait, I actually want to learn to surf this year! If anyone has any good places to visit I'd love suggestions? I'm looking for the places that aren't on the guides, the kind of places only the locals know about?

Sunday Adventures: Corbridge

I visited Corbridge last year with my mum as it's between my hometown, Carlisle and Newcastle where I live now. Mum had read about a little shop which sold vintage and repurposed things, I wasn't sure what to expect sometimes these shops can be not as good as the hype.
Well let me tell you RE in Corbridge tucked neatly away between The Angel pub and a garage was better than I would have ever guessed!

I've been waiting to go back for a while now to show G and have lunch at The Angel, so this Sunday we hopped on the train (well we ran) and took the short ride to Corbridge.

Corbridge is such a pretty little town, the train station is only a five minute walk to the town centre, which is good because the wind was crazy!
The town has several pubs a wonderful trait of small northern towns, tiny independent shops and numerous quaint cafes for tea, cake and more tea again.

We started the day with RE! I was excited to get back here and shop, it's full to brimming with so many things that I could have got but I restricted myself to just a few little things.

The shop opened in 2003 and their mail order catalogue was created in 2004, the have everything stuffed into their space and I'll challenge you to not walk out with something you love.

G's excited! I'm more excited though, he got my Valentines present there! You'll see a peak of it later.

G found the biggest tea mug he's ever seen so I got him that to add to his V-day present, he knows so I'm not giving anything away don't worry.

I spotted these striped strings and grabbed one in green and one in navy I think I'll be able to use these for everything, scrapbooking and cards, pretty much anything crafty.

These are actually vintage printing press letter blocks,  I think, and I decided to use them as stamps. This is printed in my soon to be Valentines 2014 page of my scrapbook. I'll use them to make cards too!

These rustic tin letters caught my eye, I saw something like these last year but for a much higher price, whereas these were just £2.50 a pop! They also had bigger sizes all the way up to really quite big ones I like once we have a house of our own.

Last purchase wasn't actually mine but G's present to me for Valentines. I am more than a little excited about this, I've been coveting this gorgeous milk glass cake stand since I first visited RE. I'm such a crazy lucky girl to have found such a perfect guy.
I'm looking forward to Friday when I can whip up a cake to stick on top.

Then we headed next door for Sunday lunch, we were both starving so we really couldn't wait.
It's decorated in that quaint but not too quirky way with duck egg blue wood panelled walls and solid wood tables.
The Angel is such a lovely pub and the menu was to die for, every kind of roast dinner you could ever want for but being the traditionalists we are we chose chicken.

Lunch was Amazing, yes with a capital A. I could eat this roast every Sunday for the rest of my life and I think I might try to replicate it very soon!

Last but most definitely not least on our Sunday adventure was Grants bakery, we grabbed a chocolatey sponge and a huge strawberry meringue! I'm dying to eat the meringue and I've decided I need to make some soon!

Corbridge is definitely worth a trip, even just for a browse in RE if your passing through but if you have a spare day a roast dinner is extremely worth it and so is following it up with a cake or two!
If you've visited I would love to know what else you love in Corbridge for our next trip?
